About Mihrabi Rugs

We are new venture that was started by Mas’ud Ahmed Khan webmaster of the well known site for Traditional Islam masud.co.uk who bought a Balochi prayer rug whilst on a visit to Pakistan and was so impressed with the craftsmanship and design that he decided to introduce this to others. What struck him was the variety and uniqueness of each rug that is dramatically different to the mass-produced, machine made and synthetic prayer mats that we are all so used to. The rugs are truly a work of art that would adorn your sacred space.

These rugs are handmade and made with the intention that someone is to pray on them, each rug is made by more than one person using knotting and weaving techniques handed down generation after generation. We are told by our supplier that prayer rugs and mats are not being produced in the numbers that they once were due to the prevalence of the mass-produced and very cheap machine made mats.

The materials used are natural wool, cotton and camel hair and in most cases natural dyes. The rugs are hard wearing and will give many years of faithful service and many rugs have been known to last 50 or more years.

We are small hobbyist supplier, we do not buy in bulk but in small hand selected batches, even so, our prices are generally lower than what you will find elsewhere for similar pieces.

Mihrabi Rugs aims to bring you hand-selected prayer mats that will beautify your sacred space and enhance your sacred devotions.

Just wanted to write and say I am very impressed with the quality of the rug. I recieved it very promptly and I love the natural colours! I shall be recommending you to friends and family. Thank you.

The rug is a pleasure to look at. I was amazed by the size. It is more than what I expected. It will take some time to get used to praying on it because it is so rich. I am amazed at the workmanship. It looks like it will last me a lifetime and I hope it will somehow improve my salah as well!
