FAQ

Where are these rugs from?
Whilst we can’t pin down the exact location, we are reliably informed that they originate from Afghanistan on the Afghan-Persian border and are made by various Balochi tribes.

What is a Mihrab?
Mihrab, sometimes spelled “mehrab” or “mehraab”, is a niche in the wall of a mosque that indicates the qibla, i.e. the direction of Ka’aba that Muslims should face when praying. The wall is called the qibla wall. The mihrab gives the impression of a door or a passage to Mecca and in some sufi traditions it symbolises the doorway to heaven. In the context of the prayer rug it identifies the top of the prayer mat that points towards the direction of the Ka’aba and thus the rug is a “mihrabi” rug.
